Generation Alpha predictions highlight what demographic experts think will become of the current generational cohort when it reaches maturity. Experts predict Alpha will be the most transformative generation yet, at least until the Beta cohort arrives.

Born and raised entirely in the 21st century, Alpha children embody the ideal mashup of a true digital native generation. They talk, eat and sleep – with technology at the core of their thinking. Nothing else makes complete sense.

And yes, digital existence is the way to go in the 21st century, and will define how Alphas live, learn, and work.

The Projected Alpha Story …

According to estimates, 2.5 million Alphas are born every week, and the entire generation will total 2 billion when the last one is born in 2024. It is important to remember that the first Alpha kids were born in 2010.

Whereas the eldest Alpha is only 13 in 2023, the future for the generation looks like a mixed bag of possibilities in the 21st century.

Here is how …

1. Tech-savvy generation

The ease with which Alphas learn and use digital devices explains a generation that will innovate even as they age.

They will adopt new technologies faster, and mesh with virtual and augmented reality devices with relative ease. They are wired to code early in life and invest in skills that fulfill their wildest imaginations.

Alpha children also experience the implementation of the 4th Industrial Revolution(4IR) first-hand. 4IR is all about harnessing Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, advanced robotics, and the 5G framework.

And as time moves on, they are preparing to immerse themselves in the visually appealing world of the Metaverse. In these virtual spaces, they will travel, shop, and meet new friends in the comfort of their homes.

They are getting used to and will embrace advanced voice assistants and AI-related interfaces. Alphas will prefer online education over traditional forms of learning.

Ultimately, they will favor teachers who are ready for the 21st-century tech classroom.

2. Will probably outgrow tech-addiction faster – or maybe not!

While the world is worried over tech addiction in children, little do we accept that these kids will outgrow this ‘addiction’ faster. They will probably become better users of technology in the long run.

When talking about generation Alpha predictions, Christopher J. Ferguson, a professor of psychology at Stetson University,

Much of the discussion is framed around fighting “addiction” to technology. But to me, that resembles a moral panic, giving voice to scary claims based on weak data.

The Media Psychology and Technology division of the American Psychological Association also argues against using the word addiction to describe children’s screen use.

After getting the hang of technology abuse, we tend to rethink our interaction as the years go by. Ultimately, years of tech experience somehow help us learn to use it for productive purposes.

Users with addictive experience far outpace those with only a few years of experience, when it comes to hanging the boots.

In any case, how on earth do we expect them to transform technology experience if they interact with them the same way all of us do? They have to go one step better.

I bet many digital natives will get tired of gaming and social media even way before they are 15. Then they will be ready to think about technology as productivity tools.

On the other hand, the dawn of the Metaverse and all virtual technology devices may actually make them part complete accomplices of technology.

In essence, they will communicate, shop, and even sleep in the virtual world even as they age!

Well, it all remains to be seen.

3. Most and least connected generation

The boom in social media usage means young people are busy exploring one platform of social media or another, at the expense of other areas of life.

Starting with Generation Z, online interactions among youths have never been higher. It will only get big as the years go by.

According to Statista, the number of social media users worldwide surpassed three billion, and of these 50% are teenagers, with Alphas fast joining the bandwagon.

As the tech world adopts voice input and 5G cellular communication, there is no telling what the possibilities are. This may not be clear, at least until after the last Alpha child is born.

While this explosion is taking shape, another unpleasant trend is happening – the inability of children to interact FACE TO FACE with peers. They have totally embraced social networks and virtual platforms above offline interactions.

Even when they meet and sit around the table, digital kids prefer chatting on social platforms to active talking. If they do, it is in reaction to the updates they are reading – they don’t read much either!

To them, the implementation of the Metaverse via virtual reality and augmented reality devices will make a lot of sense. Rather than meet face to face, they will spend most of their time in their private rooms, using their avatars to connect with friends.

4. Most diverse generation

The world today is a melting pot of racial and cultural diversity. Different peoples from different races, tribes, cultures are traveling the world over and settling in new neighborhoods and countries.

There is an explosion of multi-racial relationships, which has led to multinational, and ultimately, multi-faceted Alpha generation.

This is creating an interesting demographic cohort that will probably tolerate diversity better than the older cohorts – or maybe not.

They are also open to accommodating and interfacing with diverse and new life choices.

5. Will revolutionize online shopping

Many generation Alpha and Z kids are born into homes saturated with electronic devices, both for entertainment and productive purposes.

For this, they are busy communicating with technology from home and are preoccupied with games and other forms of digital entertainment.

When they finally grow up and join the consumer market, as teens and adults, they will have little time to drive outdoors for shopping. They would rather transact purchases online and have goods delivered to their doorsteps.

Of course, this is happening today. Because Alphas are making retailers and tech conglomerates think deeper how they do online business and shopping.

With the onset of the Metaverse, Alphas will explore endless virtual products online instead of walking to real stores.

Led by Amazon in the US and Alibaba in Asia, tech giants and retailers are perfecting online shopping and home delivery.

6. Will often change careers and jobs

The explosion of information today implies that the internet is becoming a one-stop center for information and education.

As Generation Alpha and Z kids get smarter, the internet will become the ultimate school, pioneered by tech platforms giants like Google and Facebook.

Predictions indicate digital natives will opt for short and diverse courses to acquire relevant skills, instead of traditional forms of education.

With the world bracing itself for robotic invasion, future adults will have to make do with short stints in jobs, either to make way for new machines or actually replace some of them.

7. Generation of super kids?

Alphas are predicted to give true meaning to the concept of natural selection, because they are suited to adapt better to the ‘side-effects’ of electromagnetic fields (EMF), and related environmental changes.

They are exposed to all kinds of tech EMF from the day of birth, and many are exposed to this even before they are born, in the womb.

Natural selection is a mechanism of evolution. Organisms that are more adapted to their environment are more likely to survive and pass on the genes that aided their success. This process causes species to change and diverge over time.

What is natural selection?

Micro-chipping of humans is already happening in the workplace, and will soon become commonplace as the desire grows to centralize humanity. This probably makes a lot of sense in the pursuit of natural selection and super kids.

Final Thoughts!

When all is said and done, generation Alpha predictions also point to a cohort beset by technology over-indulgence.

Out of the many, health is the most notable concern, given the sedentary lifestyle adopted by the modern-day child. Extended sedentary practices lead to poor eating habits, obesity, and tech-neck.

Parents must ensure the use of technology is safe, and does not interfere with other activities.

Digital natives should also be helped navigate the internet safely and use social media responsibly. They must also stay informed about online dangers such as malware, hackers, bad content, cyberbullying, sexual predators, etc.
